AVENIDA DE CORTEZ

THE HOUSE THAT HIVE BUILT

(Along with the help of our lovely clients who have impeccable taste and a talented architect!) Together we refreshed this dated 1970s single family home into a natural, light-filled, spacious and warm California dream.

We set out to bring the home’s exterior to the present day without deviating too far from the other homes in the neighborhood. The siding was painted charcoal, a pool was installed, and new doors and windows showcase the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains. The drop ceiling was removed in the kitchen and dining area to create height and architectural interest.

The interiors are bright with classic touches inspired by our clients’ time spent living in England. We used pattern, color, and a mix of materials to create a layered lived-in feel. Honorable mention to the closets and pantry for being completed but not photographed. A dramatic before and after, to be sure.
